Church Community Services is looking forward to an awesome week at the Elkhart Co. 4-H Fair! Come visit them at Building E.

The Elkhart County 4-H Fair and Church Community Services have teamed up to raise 250,000 pounds of food for Elkhart County food pantries this year. You can help them “Harness Hunger in Elkhart County” by donating at the gate or adding a non-perishable food item to the box. Donations on behalf of the program will also be accepted at CCS, 907 Oakland Ave. in Elkhart, and online at churchcommunityservices.org/get-involved/donate/. Donors can specify that the donations are part of the “Fairs Care” campaign and the donations will be counted toward the campaign’s goal of $250,000 pounds or dollars.

The food bank at Church Community Services provides about 70 pounds of food per month to a family of four. With 250,000 pounds of food, they could feed more than 3,500 families for a month.

Church Community Services’ Seed to Feed program will also be featured and will be offering tractor rides this Friday for Ag Day.

WEEKLY ‘SEED TO FEED’ UPDATE…IT IS ALL GOOD!

Sent: Thursday, August 23, 2012 7:45 AM
Subject: Seed to Feed Weekly Update

Hi Everyone,

This past week we had two great harvests at both of our gardens. There
were 29 volunteers who showed up at the Bullard Garden on Monday and 25
volunteers at the Goshen Garden on Tuesday. Thank You all.

We are moving the time of the Bullard Garden picking to 6:00 p.m. We are moving the time of the Bullard Garden picking on Monday evenings. We still need 30 volunteers to pick green beans and sweet corn. Although we will pick on Monday evenings, if anyone wants to pull weeds between the rows, please do so at your own time schedule. If more weeds are pulled, that means more beans get picked. The Bullard Garden is
directly across from Sorg Jewelers, C.R. 17. With 30 volunteers, weeds pulled and fast pickers, we could pick a 1000# of green beans in 3 hrs—-we have lots of beans!!!!!

The Goshen Garden has tons of green tomatoes that should be ready
soon. We will pick every Tuesday at 6:00pm and it is located at 14723
C.R. 36. Last week with 25 volunteers, we picked 11 boxes of beans, tomatoes
and peppers in 1 1/2 hours.

This was a great week and thanks to ALL the volunteers that came and
helped pick. See you Monday and Tuesday at the gardens.

Blessings
Dave Hochstetler

See you there!

About Jackie…

Jackie Walorski is a native Hoosier, born and raised in South Bend, Indiana.  Jackie attended Riley High School in South Bend and graduated with a BA from Taylor University, also in Indiana.   She started her career as a reporter at WSBT-TV. Later she worked as a Development Director to raise funds for local colleges and universities.

Shortly after marrying her husband Dean, a Mishawaka school teacher, Jackie and Dean moved to Romania.  While in Romania, they founded their own agency and local foundation to help provide much-needed medical supplies to the country’s impoverished children.

After returning home, Jackie was elected to her first of three terms in the Indiana House of Representatives in 2004. She rose quickly to leadership becoming the Assistant Floor Leader for the Republican Caucus.

Jackie on creating jobs and strengthening the economy…

U.S. job growth.

Jackie believes Washington is broken. While Congress has spent hundreds of billions of dollars on so called stimulus, the unemployment rate in North Central Indiana continues to remain high. Jackie believes that Congress needs to create a pro-growth economic environment that will create jobs. To do this, we need to lower taxes on our small businesses. Currently, American corporations pay the highest tax rates in the world. If we allow businesses to keep more of their hard earned money, they will do what they do best, create jobs and strengthen our economy. Jackie fought for lower taxes in the legislature in Indianapolis, and she’ll continue to fight for them in Washington.

Small businesses continue to see their health care costs increase year after year, making it difficult for them to create jobs. Jackie believes we need to repeal the trillion dollar government takeover of health care and replace it with reforms that will actually lower the cost of health care while improving quality.
